PUBLIC TELEPHONE AMPLIFIER

Effective, Reliable and Inexpensive Volume Control

The SCE public telephone amplifier is an excellent field-proven aid for the hearing impaired public telephone user. It is also an effective device for use in high noise level environments. With thousands of units currently in service, they are demonstrating superior reliability and cost effectiveness.

The amplifier module is installed in the public telephone upper housing rather than inside the handset to eliminate amplifier damage from vandalism and weather.

Replacement of damaged amplified handsets is costly, but by locating the unit inside the telephone, expensive service calls are a thing of the past.

Volume is controlled by a sealed, housing-mounted LOUD Button . Press the button once to increase the volume. Press the button a second time for the highest amplification. Press the button a third time to restore to a non-amplified state. The unit restores to normal volume on hang-up.

Amplifier Installed In Public Telephone

The SCE amplifier is designed to be compatible with AT&T and GTE public telephones.

There are no holes to drill and modular connectors simplify on-site installation. Just mount the amplifier in a convenient location under the dial unit or on one of the housing locking studs. Mount the LOUD button and connect the plug-in wiring. You're finished.

Construction is entirely solid-state with a special conformal coating to keep out the elements for maximum reliability.

LOUD Button Installed On Public Telephone

Specifications:

Amplifier Gain:

  • User selectable at 0 db, 9 db, and 18 db. When the handset is taken off-hook, amplification is 0 db. Pressing the LOUD button once raises volume in the receiver by 9 db, pushing it again raises volume by 18 db, and the third time resets the volume back to 0 db. Amplification returns to 0 db on hang-up.

Fraud Protection:

  • As an included feature, the SCE public telephone amplifier module provides handset isolation just like the Coin Tone Fraud Filter. The unit electronically isolates the coin telephone handset from the telephone line so that grounding or Pin Fraud cannot be accomplished. This isolation makes it impossible to place a free local call or to prevent the coin relay from collecting deposited coins by grounding the handset conductors. The coin telephone handset is isolated at all times regardless of line polarity.
  • We also have an amplifier available that includes all of the features of the Coin Tone Fraud Filter as well as receiver amplification. In addition to all the other features, this unit incorporates a unique frequency filter circuit that effectively prevents the use of a coin tone generator or Red Box to simulate deposited coins to the network.

Design and Construction:

  • The SCE public telephone amplifier module is all solid state for maximum reliability. Its service temperature range is rated at -40° C (-40° F) to 70° C (158° F).
  • A special conformal coating is used to seal the unit from the weather.
  • Modular plugs make it easy to connect to the the telephone dial and handset. The plug-in connector for the loud button makes it easy to use not only the SCE LOUD Button, but virtually any available button on the market.

Compatibility and Compliance:

  • The SCE amplifier can easily be mounted in any public telephone housing and complies with regulations on devices for the hearing impaired.
